Of course, both the portions are enjoyable but those scenes are not helping for the flow of the movie.ĭespite all the flaws, the film has a perfect casting with easy going Jiiva, uncanny Sibiraj and beautiful Hansika, who are also nicely supported by two comic reliefs, Yogi Babu and Munishkanth. After intermission, the director has completely lost focus and started shifting scenes between both the protagonist and antagonist. The sleep inducing yawn and using wind as an attacking element is an out of the box idea and as a matter of fact, the director has genuinely handled it till the first half of the movie. The director has now back with Pokkiri Raja, where he has tried a fantasy genre and to be honest, the concept is completely new to Indian cinema. Ramprakash Rayappa's Tamizhu En Ondrai Azhuthavvum was a well made entertainer with ample amount of science elements. You remove some 45-odd minutes of rollicking stuff from this and you've 90-odd minutes of absolutely-gone-nuts type film making antics from Ramprakash. Belongs to the peculiar set of movies which 'might' entertain you when watching in home with no other jobs to do in an absolutely berserk and kiddish mindset.īut yes.

The movie was right on intention but went wrong in vision. The script demanded much more creativity and inventiveness which Director Ramprakash Rayappan never seemed to have clinched it. D.Imman's score was nothing less than a noise. Technically the movie was as piss poor as the movie was rendered. PR (yawns) is ONE MORE movie under Tamil Cinema's canopy that has a plot that could've well lit the audience in a laughter riot but unfortunately let down by a hugely lazy execution and a torpid sequencing of scenes. But the problem is that director has miserably failed in bringing out the required out put as such.

Pokkiri Raja does have a never heard before storyline. Probably Munishkanth & Panni moonji vaayan are the only 2 characters that justified their tagline to the fullest. Other additions being Sibiraj who partly impresses with his antagonism but remains cheesy for most part. You jus got to flaunt your curves in the name of "TC's most wanted heroine". You've nothing to act and nothing to work. Pokkiri Raja might've been some movie that has no pre release buzz but it does boast of a good cast with Jiiva donning a role that he sleepwalks through, Hansika with one more role where she rides on mere fortune that seems to be lasting for an eternity. On the flip side, trying a new concept is appreciated but more concentration on the writing and presentation could have made this an above ave stuff. Lots of slow mos, same bgm being played each and everytime the villain is shown, unnecessary adult double meaning dialogues, regular commercial songs and the leads, a role less heroine are some of the negatives. Nothing much to rave about the performances. Though the plot seems interesting and refreshing, it is the very poor writing and the addition of the so called commercial stuffs that make this a big bore. PokkiriRaja is all about the cat and mouse game between a guy who has a powerful yawn that blows away everything nearby and an one eyed villain. The expectation on this film was high, unfortunately all the expectations were in vain and the patience of the audience were put to test at many parts. SibiRaj who is very much looked upon plays the baddie. RamprakashRayyapa who made an impressive debut with TamilukuEnOndraiAzhuthavum has made PokkiriRaja, the first fun fantasy film in Tamil. Other than that, there's nothing noteworthy in the film. Overall, Pokkiri Raja is a fairly new attempt to bring a new flavor to the movie watching audiences in Tamil. The occasionally entertaining second half couldn't make up for the mundane first half which brims with deadpan humor. Hansika, unlike many purposeless roles, has something to do here as far as the story is concerned. Jiiva churns out a good performance but his character needed more vigor and verve to leave the audience in splits.

Ramprakash has tried to write a laughworthy drama around Jiiva's unusual condition but what we get is a half hearted attempt from the director who showed extraordinary promise in his debut film Tamilukku En Ondrai Aluthavum. However, a sudden turn of contrived events make Jiiva and Sibiraj, who is a terrible choice for a villain role, adversaries.

When his yawning becomes contagious, that becomes the final nail in the coffin for his professional life.

Jiiva suffers from uncontrollably excessive yawning and this lands him in trouble at the workplace. The comedy factor in the film works only to an extent and the interesting fantasy element is not explored enough to keep the narration entertaining. Pokkiri Raja directed by Ramprakash Rayappa has a peachy conceit but is let down by an uninteresting writing that is all over the place.
